About Us / About Happy Farmer

“Do you know how pineapples grow?” Do they grow on trees or on the ground?

To educate people about food and agriculture, rejuvenate rural communities, and help solve the labor shortage during busy farming seasons, Kaohsiung City Government launched the 1-Day Farmer program in 2013. The program’s rural experience camps innovatively integrate the resources of local agricultural communities and nearby recreational farms. Tourists are guided through a deep immersion into each host community, absorbing much more than fresh countryside air. Professional local guides introduce and explain agricultural knowledge, so visitors learn and have fun at the same time. Moreover, tourists can escape from the noise and bustle of the city, and enjoy slower rural lifestyles.

“1-Day Farmer Rural Camp in Kaohsiung” has had a strong community focus from the outset. Individual communities are encouraged to host tourists with the support of Kaohsiung City Government, which aims to attract more foreigners to the city’s rural districts in order to boost economic growth in those areas. Programs organized for foreign visitors offer a range of experiences, including fruit gathering, and trying local fruits and vegetables, through which visitors can enjoy the profound hospitality of rural Kaohsiung.
